We are seeking an ambitious and independent individual to join our team as a back-up truck driver who will also be a floating production worker when not needed for truck driving. Truck Drivers must have a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) and operate 18-wheeler tractor trailers in a safe and efficient manner.
This is a full-time position with truck driving being on an as needed basis to fill in for the current truck drivers, other duties within production will be assigned when not driving truck. This position will transition to full-time truck driving when the current drivers move towards retirement.
SUMMARY:
Work with limited supervision in a team environment and perform many duties assigned by the supervisor. Assumes responsibility of positions assigned, performs duties in a safe manner producing products meeting all quality standards and production output. Drives diesel powered tractor trailer combination to transport and deliver products and materials to customers. Maintains communications associated with activities of the department and employee relationships supporting company goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reads work order to determine profile type, bundling, stacking and packaging procedures. Completes production records indicating quantity, footage produced, profiles, species, etc.
Operates machine, cutting wood to customer specifications and following production schedule. Defect marking, using chop saw to remove defects, and running lumber through moulder. Periodically checks for proper thickness and quality.
Performs inspection procedures of handling / banding equipment, changes tooling when worn. Equipment tear down and setup selecting proper packing and banding according to pattern, material length, width and height.
Performs stacking functions, piling finished products and lumber off equipment, arranging boards to make up sturdy units of a standard width for ease of transporting and storage. Performs banding functions securing piles for transporting.
Takes material to destinations and may have backhauls on returning. Communicating and coordinating with supervisor. Planning routes and meeting delivery schedules.
Obeying and following applicable traffic laws. Maintains driver log per federal regulations including the ELD system.
Securing cargo and properly arranging and balancing it within the vehicle. Assists workers in loading and unloading truck.
Inspects truck for defects before and after trips and reports to supervisor any issues with the truck or trailers condition. Will need to do minor truck and trailer maintenance. Schedules all maintenance for tractor and trailer including yearly DOT inspections, oil changes, and get any other issues that would arise fixed.
Responsible for keeping work area clean and able to perform other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, twist, bend, walk, use hand to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. Able to enter and exit equipment by stepping and kneeling; and be able to crouch and squat for truck and trailer inspections. The employee must regularly lift materials up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Ability to push and maneuver material filled carts regularly. Ability to sit and drive for long periods of time. Must be able to pass a Department of Transportation physical and drug test.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Highschool diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months job related experience and/or training.
Must have a valid CDL and clean driving record.
REQUIREMENTS:
· Good attendance and clean driving record.
· Ability to work with a high level of accuracy; keep paperwork and material organized and work station clean and orderly.
· Ability to work well with others, work as a team member and have good communication skills.
· Be self-motivated, quality conscious, have a positive attitude and be opportunistic
· Ability to use and read a tape measure accurately. Basic math skills: add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
· Be willing to perform other duties as needed. Able to work overtime as needed to complete jobs on time to meet truck schedules.
· Ability to pass a DOT pre-employment drug screen.
Salary: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
